Noise from instrument panel

Hi all. Car has recently developed a strange noise from the area forward of the instrument panel. After engine has warmed up, a noise sounding like a ball bearing chattering on a plastic tray when accelerating (lightly) and when lifting off, sound turns into a bird chirping sound, very strange. I have removed the windscreen middle top vent, including the metal support and the centre air vent but, nothing loose in there. Whilst noise is apparent, i have put hand pressure on all the trim around the instrument panel but, still unable to trace the source. Any one had experience of this and managed to stop it?

I had an annoying noise/rattle from the rear view mirror. I dismantled it and placed some rubber pads around the fixings and cured it. It took a long time to realise where the noise was coming from though.
