Noisy Front Brakes

I have an E220 CDi and have noticed that after the car has been used for a while in a constant braking situation (such as town driving), the front brakes seem to make a rasping sound when you apply them from fairly low speeds. This does not happen from initial (cold) driving, only when the brakes have really warmed up. Both front pads and discs have normal wear for the mileage but do not appear to be worn excessively (pads still have a good 10 mm on them). It does not affect the braking capability, it's just an annoying noise effect. Anyone any ideas ?

Sometimes caused by grit under the pad, if so this will clear with time. If the pads have grooves in them this could also affect it.
