Hi,

I have a 6210 holder in my ML55 AMG. It works fine with my friends 6210 phone - but not with mine! It just says " Initializing / Initialising " please wait. Any Ideas?

(Is it something to do with the firmware version in the phone?)

Thanks

I have the same system, though mine works 90% of the time, I get that message, now and then.
whos sim card is it

Version

I'm using a Vodafone Pay as You go SIM Card.

I've checked the version of firmware on my phone by pressing *#0000#
Its V 04.08 25-10-100 NPE-3

I had an idea that it may be down to upgrading the firmware - but I'm having a seach about on the internet on how to do this.

Can you tell me what version of firmware your phone is?

Mine 6210

V05.56
25-01-02
NPE3
(CNMP)

I also have 2150 that works, but that would not work while locked to Orange.

I use the same card as you

Thanks for that. Looks like it could me my firmware ... only problem seems to be is that it is not straighforward to update the firmware on these old phones .. looks like I have to take it in to a Nokia Dealer!!

Do any other phones work with the 6120 holder?

Think the 5110 works. You can't use the 6310i unless you upgrade the PSE module.

I have some old 6210's lying around that I used in our W220 prior to upgrading the PSE. I could check the firmware on those. Could you check the firmware on your friends phone, if you're local perhaps you could try one of my phones...

I have a 6150 that that works after being updated, I used a back street phone shop who charged me £10 to unlock it and up grade it while I waited

Just checked with my friend who had the car before me. His Nokia 6120 had the following firmware:

V 05.56
25-01-02
NPE-3
(c) NMP

I think this could be a firmware issue. Does anyone know if there is a definitive list of the 6120 firmware that works with the unit?

If anyone has a 6120 phone working with the unit - can you post your firmware version by doing *#0000# on the phone.

thanks in advance

That firm ware is the same as mine.

I will charge up my 6150 and let you have the code for that in the morning, this is the one that was updated, though I do not use it

Since it works with your friend's 6210, it really looks like a SW update needed on your phone.

For a phone this old, you have to let the phone service take care of the SW update.

My 6150 that works is
V4.13
16-12-98
NSM-1

This is the one Orange one that I opened up, it does not read it as well as the 6210

My 6210 that works is V05.27

Looks like it's a firmware issue.

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the exact info, I thought I had seen this mentioned but did not even try to find it.

A minor clarification, this SW and all above should work with the MB kit. One might interpret "05.27 only", but that was obvious already from the previous posts that mention a later SW working with the MB kit.

Thanks for the offer... but I'm in France!

you can buy update codes on Ebay but are a waste of time as you can mess it all up, you should have the phone repair shops in France as we have, they just plug it into the computer and it take 10 mins.

If you are stuck and you do not mind posting it, I will get it done for you

Thanks for the offer.. I may do that if I have no luck in France.

I have emailed Nokia to ask for the firmware history of the 6210 just for information (I'll post it here). It would be useful to know exactly from what version of firmware the 6210 starts to function with the system.

Emailed Nokia, Nokia who? I would be surprised if Nokia UK or Nokia France offered this detailed support. They didn't even know they had made a 6110 sometime before and reused the number (for the new 6110 that later on had to be extended with "navigator"). 6210 isn't a lot late product ;-)

Seriously, I actually managed to find SW bulletins for both the MB PSE (DME-1E) and the 6210 Nokia phone. DME-1E bulletins did not mention any phone SW releases but for the 6210 I did find some related notes.

SW version 4.36 introduces STP support (Smart Traffic Products), as used by e.g. Mercedes. Some ignitions status related fixes too.

5.17 has another STP fix, however I understand this one affecting data calls only after the phone has been used in the car.

5.27, 5.36, 5.44, 5.56 none for STP, as far as I could figure out.

My conclusion is that 4.36 should be usable and 5.17 and later OK. But since there are other bug fixes affecting normal phone use, the latest SW should be safe.
