Nokia N8 black death

I remember seeing spoof versions of the Microsoft poster ad. when NT first came out, doctored to say:

NiceTry

:)

I've got an N8 as well Keith, remember I quizzed you about a year ago about getting one?
Did you do the software update around July time, I did and it improved things.
Software version- 022.014

Glad to see you got it sorted, great phone :)

Interesting. I have no idea what software version it came back from the repairer with, but as soon as I plugged it back into the PC it went and found a newer version in the Nokia PC Suite. The version now installed is 025.007, dating from 16/09/2011.

This worries me slightly as I wonder if it is possible that I have now re-introduced whatever problem caused the meltdown? Time will tell, I suppose...

Hmmm, interestingly, I've just searched for new software and OVI reports none available for my phone.
I wonder if 025.007 is a pre-release?

^ Indeed, tried it but also in the small print it says

"Please note that the latest software version may not be available for your device, and the benefits listed may not be available to you, or be available in selected countries"

If you have Nokia Suite version 3.2.100 on your PC then you should be able to download the update.

Look at my previous link, there is a video on how to update. You have to select your phone first, select N8 from the list of phones then scroll down to the page bottom and there is a video button which says… “See how to update using a PC”

We might be missing a crucial bit of info here but if you have an N8 I think you should be able to update ok.

No don't use PC suite, I use OVI, which I have downloaded software update from before, so, PC Suite has the software and OVI doesn't (but does have the others) weird.

I've not added PC suite because I have no use for it's other functions, when I download pictures and videos off my phone, I use W7 for that.

I'll try PC suite in a few days, then delete it.... what a kaffufull!

Ovi Suite is now called Nokia Suite. Nokia Suite is now where you update your Ovi Maps and where you update your phones software, latest is Version 025.007.

Keep Nokia Suite on your computer as it is the best way to update your phone softwear and Ovi Maps, just connect your phone to your computer about once a month so you can update any new softwear and maps.

You can download it here… Nokia Suite

Don't you have a 'SW Update' app/icon on the phone menus?

Yup, I think so but also always understood that it was safer to do software update through the PC via USB? so never bothered with the phone software self udater thingy.

Just tried it, no phone software update showing.
