I had a Volvo V40 T4 since new for 13 years and wanted something a little larger as my son is a wheelchair user and we take the car on holiday and need a little more room. I'd been searching for a white Audi A6 or BMW 5 Series but just couldn't find one at a reasonable price so I extended my search to any large white estates and came across a white 2006 (new style) E280 CDI Elegance that looked the part.
I was very reluctant to even consider it at first as I'd bought a 1998 A160 for the wife a few years ago and consider it to be the worst car I've ever had. I think Mercedes had managed to hire the Chuckle Brothers to service it and we lost 5 litres of oil all over the road, followed by a bonnet catch when they replaced the oil filter seal that they'd damaged, and then they split the air hose replacing the bonnet catch that they had tried to glue unsuccessfully.
In the end, this was the only big white diesel auto estate I could find with less than 50k on the clock and a price tag of less than £20k so I took the plunge and paid for it. I'm very glad I did as it is a lovely car, even if I did pay over the odds for it. It had about 15K on the clock and now it has another 3K as I've taken it on quite a few runs including London to Edinburgh and back.
It has telephone pre-wiring so I've just bought a ViseeO MBU2000 Bluetooth cradle to connect my Blackberry Bold. The biggest problem for me is that it has NO CUP HOLDERS in the front I'm guessing that you can get something to replace the square pen holder size storage pot in front of the armrest.
I just hope the Chuckle Brothers have been replaced by now.
