Not a pretty sight

Due to the labour aspect of the job I would be inclined to go LEMFORDER. There are 4 subframe mounts. Its where the 2 front mounts are fixed to the body that are most vulnerable to corrosion. That whole area rear sill jacking point and front rear subframe mount are probably the source of the most frequent MOT structural failure in the whole car.

So, car returned today with refreshed rear suspension.
Lemforder kit plus a further assortment of control arms, ball joints, bolts and seals (MB parts)
Subframe and diff removed, stripped down, descaled and painted. ARB bushes, hub carrier joints, spring swing arms and diff seals replaced.
Can it be my imagination? Car feels tauter, steering sharper and the ride quieter. All in all a great job by the guys at HR Motors, Galashiels!
Total bill???

Confirmed that chassis totally solid with slight surface rust...

£854. Lovely job. I paid ~£180 to an MB Indy to have my front mounts only replaced on the rear subframe of the 204, from memory, but could be wrong as it was 5 years ago.

Mine's ripped too. Is it true that the rear subframe is removable on a 204? From what I've seen under the car it seems integral with the chassis?

Yes, the rear subframe of the 204 is removable but it doesn't need to be removed to replace the bushes.

However, there have been a number of posts on here where the subframes of 2007/8 cars have rotted through and the only solution is to replace it. That said, a number of these have been replaced under goodwill so if yours turns out to be rotten, it might be worth asking MB to replace it under their 30 year warranty.

It’s not bushes, mine’s rotten and torn. I’ve a separate thread about it.

I’m being fobbed off at the minute, but will try again tomorrow.

Good luck Mike, hope you get it done FOC. :)
