Not Ebay but Cheshire Classic Benz

What he asks for and what he gets..........that said, it looks to be a pretty good example.

It's arguably a good colour, but the spec is interesting, as it has some unusual options fitted, and is missing some of the more "normal" ones. Auto-dip RVM? Fire extinguisher? No aircon? (incidentally, I'm not sure that the 'majority' of these cars had no aircon).

The bodykit is a matter of personal preference, and there's no mention of Sportline which I would certainly look for, particularly with an 'AMG'.

£8,950 with the aircon, maybe; but then only on a good day.

A really good looker if you ask me with an exclusive rare colour

Cheshire Classic Benz are notoriously expensive. The trick is to find the cars before they get hold of them ! The owner's club is a good place to start.

Strictly speaking the car is a:

"E320 Coupe with AMG bodykit"

It is not an AMG car.

If it was an AMG car it would be :

"E36 AMG Coupe"

and would feature the 3600cc engine, and AMG suspension, and wheels and quicker steering and faster gearbox mod etc etc.

Nice car and I love Bornite as a colour!

I think I actually saw this car at MB Macclesfield - unlikely to be two in Bornite with an AMG kit - must have been when it was in for the service/check. Very nice car.

I really like the colour, but who's he trying to kid - it's brown, not blackberry!!

My opinion....prices for CE's and W124 Estates are on the up....especially those with low mileage, good spec, full history cars.

As more and more CE's and TE's bite the dust, the cars that are left that fall into the catagory above start to increase in value and for something like the one shown at Cheshire Classic Benz there will be somebody who snaps it up and will feel very pleased with their purchase.

Naturally there will be some room for haggling in terms of the price, but at the end of the day if you want a well sorted, good looking CE such as this one, you are not exactly going to be falling over a large choice of cars from which to choose.

Personally, I welcome the prices being charged by the likes of Cheshire Classic Benz, Charles Ironside etc as all it does is keep prices strong for existing owners of nice CE's and TE's.

My previous car was in Bornite, on the log book the colour was stated as Bornite Blackberry Metallic. I wouldnt call it brown, it is more of a shade of purple, sometimes light at certain angles can make the car appear brown but love the colour, its very unique and much better than Rosewood metallic which is another of those unusual MB colours.

I thought I was going to be the odd one out with the colour, but there is life after either black, or silver and I personally like the colour and like the car. What's it worth??  What are you willing to pay? I would be very surprised if an example in good condition devalues any lower and I would expect values to increase.

It would be foolish to say buy it, but I bet you could do a lot worse. :) :)

Good luck with the decision.

Regards
John

Is the dealer asking for too much for this one?

imho yes

ac extra
no electric seats
95k miles (ie. after a year it will be a 100k+ car)

look in Mercedes Enthusiast and you'll find many cheaper lower mileage similar cars with history that you can gradually bring back to life for less than £8k+.

Vlad, I've been meaning to ask you how does the six cylinder M104 2.8 engine compare with the 230K ? I see you've owned both in a W202.
I've owned a E320 W124 and am curious if the 230k feels coarse by comparison. The Kompessor does seem to add performance with good MPG ?

So you think it's worth the money or not?
To somebody somewhere it might be. Too much for me though.

That said, there are plenty of new MBs around that depreciate more than that in a year, and with that in min it makes that 124 look like a bargain.

For me it would always be a 280 over a 230...I found the 230 noisy, corse and unrefined. Performance wise I can't say anything bad about the 230 as its very good, but the 280 is much smoother, and sounds great once you hit 4000rpm and in terms of fuel consumption theres virtually no difference.

I did over 60,000 miles in my 230K, which was a company car...needed a new Kompressor at 23,000 miles as the bearings failed...mainly due to the previous driver I inherited the car from, who drove it like a mad man everywhere he went:rolleyes:
