Not MB - engine control light on Fiat Stilo

Apologies for a non MB problem but someone will hopefully give me a pointer on this:

A neighbour (not me, honest) has a Fiat Stilo something-or-other. It has been parked up for the last 2 months and the battery was completely dead. I charged the battery over the weekend. It seems to be holding a charge.

This evening I replaced the battery and it runs OK but the engine management light is on and the display reads 'engine fault'.

Is the general consensus that this is caused by a flat battery, or may there actually be something wrong somewhere?

Does one get the fault codes read a la MB, and does anyone know a Fiat specialist in the Winchester area, by any chance? I know there are Fiat dealers in Southampton and Basingstoke but my (elderly) neighbour doesn't fancy driving to either and I haven't really the time at the moment to take it for them.

Thanks a lot, cheers, bye.

So the lazy answer may be run the engine for a while, let it warm up and drive out the moisture?

This bloody banana
:bannana:
And that one...................................................................:bannana:

If the engine management light came on as a result of a flat battery and was not on previously the ECU will probably reset after running for a period . I had the same experience on my wife's Honda CRV after the battery went flat and the system reset after running the engine for 10mins. Hope this is the same in your case.

Thanks for both these replies tzar & shandy.

I like the idea of doing nothing, and will give it a go!

probably due to the an error caused by slowly going flat or being jumpstarted..

disconnect both the battery leads and short them togeather to completely drain all power from the ecu for 10-15mins. Then reconnect and see how you go..

have seem many ford ka recently with bizzar ecu faults or bouncing idle fixed with above after the kts scanner could not find anything
