Hi, forum!

I have a 32GB SD card that I've used for some time now without any problems. I estimate that I've used some 20GB of space on the very same card.

Yesterday I added about 7-8 GB to the same SD card and now that I re-inserted it into the NTG2.5 the display doesn't show any files/folders, it's just empty. If I eject the card the NTG2.5 acknowledges that so no problems there.

I inserted the card into my PC @ work just now and I see all folders like I should so no problems there.

Does NTG2.5 have any limit to number of files per SD Card or can't it handle some characters or similar? Clearly 32GB in size is all right since I've used it for some time.

BTW, anybody knows if 64GB (or even bigger) cards can be used?

TIA!

I sse that some folders contain the automatically created files; "Thumbs.db" & "desktop.ini", anybody knows if that can be the issue perhaps?

The SD card contains 4705 files in 370 folders and used capacity is 29.5GB right now.

Anybody knows anything about this? :wallbash:

I cleaned every single folder for the "desktop.ini" & "Thumbs.db" files to no avail (was a 1 hour job - phew!).

One of the early NTG2.5 firmware updates increased the size of the SD card allowed. I'd ensure you have up-to-date firmware (on the basis that you have tried another SD card)

I've been using the very same 32GB SD Card for several months without any issues at all, I just added some more music to it and then the problem started, so the SD Card is probably working as it should and I have 09/29 firmware (latest I think (and version 10 maps)).

Anyhow, I moved a lot of folders into one folder so I have max. 50 folders in the root directory now and finally the folders came up on display and music is back! :thumb: But still one would like to know exactly how many folders one can have, how many files, allowed characters etc. - simply put the limits since that would make it much easier to create a good folder/file structure from the beginning. Filling up a 32GB card isn't that hard at all, I would like to buy a 64GB or bigger if it exists and if possible to use with the NTG2.5!

Completely agree here, it would be useful to know the maximum permissable structure. I'll see what we can find out.

Out of interest how do you find GPS reception when using an Sd card?
I ask because a while ago there were issues with SD card usage affecting GPS reception and im keen to know if anyone is still suffering with this.

I can't say that I'm having any real issues with GPS reception but that of course means what you mean by "issues"? Is it related to how fast the GPS updates and one gets messages?

This morning I travelled some 100 kilometers (with navigation/route active) but I was mainly listening to the radio. In the final moments of the trip I was listening to music via the SD Card and can't say that I experienced anything strange.

When adding new music files to the SD card, I have used the following method with success:
1. Reformat SD card
2. Reload all music including new music onto SD card
3. Remove thumbs.db and desktop.ini files from new folders
4. Start MEDIA without an SD card
5. Insert and alternate SD card (one with only one folder/song for example)
6. Start MEDIA and play some of the song
7. Switch to RADIO
8. Remove alternate SD card
9. Start MEDIA again without an SD card
10. Insert main SD card
Folder list should show new music

I have a 64GB SD card and have 2015 S550. Steps 1 & 2 may not be necessary but it works for me.

On a 2015 S550 I doubt you have COMAND NTG 2.5, or?

Yes, I think that you are likely correct. I don't have any references to NTG 2.5. Pardon the error.
