I am considering upgrading my Comand in my B Class, it is currently an NTG2 and I am thinking of upgrading to an NTG2.5. Anyone know what is involved, I know it's not just a straight swap over as the Bluetooth is onboard rather than a seperate box as it is on the 2, but what else s involved? I also have a 6 CD changer in the glovebox, which I beleive will become redundant.

Talk to Alfie on [email protected] (forum sponsor) - if you give him your VIN he'll send you some links to the bits you need.

If you didn't have Nav / Phone already, you'd have needed to have the instrument cluster coded if you want Navigation instructions there / telephone / telephone buttons to work. And you may need the COMAND coding if it has a PIN code or has come from a car with Harmon Kardon, or Media Interface.

NOTE, if your car has HK in it already, there is lots more to do ...

Geoff, I might be interested in your COMAND NTG2, as I have Audio20 in my A200 and all I really need is a colour screen for the reversing cam - quite happy with 6xCD and everything else I have here, particularly the sound quality, so am reluctant to go aftermarket route.

Richard, would that be more or less a straight swap?
I have 386 (Mobile), 532 (Power Sound System with Subwoofer, but no HK) and 819 (CD Changer). Does the NTG2 COMAND have the reversing cam input (green fakra I believe)?

Hi,

Yes its almost a straight swap but you will probably need coding.

The A/B class NTG2 units do not auto switch to video input when engaging reverse. Some do have the fakra for video input, others not but in any case it wont auto switch. you would need an ML back end on a W169 front to get that.

Thanks Mark, I guess that's another one of my ideas of doing it on the cheap, gone

One of these days, I'll budget it fully and make my way to Lightwater for a proper instal ...
