Please can anyone tell me why in the pictures people post do they blank out the number plate?

I was going to post a few pics of my car when it comes but am I doing anything wrong including the number plate?:dk:

Nothing wrong in showing a number plate. As has been said, it's a matter of personal choice.

To stop cloning.

You have a car that you haven't taxes/MOT'd, you nip online to an owners club to find a car with same colour/model as yours. Clone the plate and never get caught for con charge/speeding etc

If somebody is looking to "clone" a car's identity, (in order to avoid speeding tickets / congestion charge penalties) a photo showing a number plate on a similar looking car can be useful.

Then again, they could simply walk round the streets and get the same information...

Just go on Ebay then...many more pics.

I understand now. Thank you for clear answer.

It is personal choice. You are on a forum...you don't want people to know you in the streets so you hide your plate, or not. The cloning argument carries no water whatsoever...

Thank you, but I started this thread asking a simple question. I wanted to know why some people black out their number plates on pictures. When you said it's a personal choice you answer didn't tell me why people do so.

I understand now that it may be for reasons of people worrying about possible cloning.

Thanks again for your input.

But that's the point it's not.

You can walk down any street, find a car like yours, note the mark and clone it. So why blank it on a forum?

Hehehe

I totally understand that you don't think/agree with those that say cloning is the reason.

All you had you say in your 1st reply was:

'Some people are concerned that their car could be cloned, but I wouldn't be worried about such a thing. Go ahead Ant, post your pics'.

That would have answered my question completely.

Take it easy, Ant.

I could go to Tesco and buy my own shopping, but thanks to the internet...

The cloning reason is a vaild point... however the main reason is that its so simple to request the registered keeper details from the DVLA for a car for a small fee.

ie.. You have a £60k car, post a picture, professional criminal google's "C63 new", see's your car, does a DVLA check, gets your address, comes take it.

Not posting a plate.. just makes it that bit harder.

Wowzers!!!

OK, that's kinda scared me into NOT posting pic with number plate on show.

It is not as simple as that, mainly because the process of obtaining keepers' details from the DVLA involves registration (and proving fake reason) which will give the police something to go on.... much easier for the thieves to simply spot coveted cars parked outside their owners' homes.
