Downloading the pirated copy won't help you much anyway - you won't be able to use the Delphi software without the OBDII multiplexer.

I had one of the clone VCI boxes and sent it back. It had a fixed firmware which only read the AC unit on my car.
If anybody knows of one that works with Mercs and supports firmware updating then I'd be interested.
The single PCB boards are apparently better than the two board sandwich.

STAR checks the ECU for current firmware then checks for available firmware updates online, and in any event it will only allow a firmware update if the new firmware is approved for the ECU.

The various hacked firmware updates that can be purchased off eBay (Stop/Start, VIM, Adblue, etc) and uploaded via the OBDII port are 'use at your own risk' and will be removed anyway once a legit firmware update is performed at a later date.

Sorry. I only meant firmware updating of the VCI itself. They should support updating but most of the cheap clones are fixed on an old firmware.

Judging from the low price and the old software version (2015) this is likely to be a clone.

I can't say if it will work properly or not, but it will safer than downloading hacked software from a file-sharing website (I used 'safer' because a copied CD provided with a clone device may contain malware, but it is less likely and so in relative terms it is safer).

What I do find odd however is that they say they are offering training and support... which is not something you normally see with a clone.

At a price that can be stomached - almost certainly cloned! STAR is around £5k initially I think with annual updates at circa £180.
Yep, malware a possibility on the CD too I guess but as there is some revenue to the vendor, maybe they settle for that. Decent PC/laptop virus protection should deal with that - I'd hope.
Rush for this has passed, but in future I may well need/want it. Just trying to bring myself up to speed as to what's out there. The Delphi seems to be the choice for early fortwos - but cannot do as much on the very earliest of them as the later (still 450 gen#1) models.

I think that will be the same as what I returned tbh. Where are you ollya?
I have an i980 that will reset the SRS light if you are no so far away.

If you are referring to the link I posted, these all tend to come with hacked versions of commercial software so likely not legal.

I received a single PCB unit ordered from Aliexpress. Shipped from Germany in 3 days.

It is a significantly better made item and even the led light in the 16 pin connector works. I tried it on my 203 and it reads everything and accepts a firmware update via the software.

These units are around £50.

Is that the same as you provided the link for in post # 27?
If so, do you just use it as it appears in the photos ie, an open, non enclosed, circuit board?
I'm looking to read (on my 2005 fortwo) codes to diagnose why three dash lights (ESP, ABS, Brake warning) are permanently on, and once repaired, clear the code to extinguish the lights. Will this do that? TIA.

PS. Just realised I haven't a clue how this works! Does it simultaneously connect with the OBD port and a lap top (I have no smart phone but I do have an Android device) for a display? Lap top would be Windows 8.1 or, if I use the old one, Windows XP. Will either work? (As you've probably guessed - I'm IT illiterate).

You can connect to it from the laptop via USB or bluetooth.
If you use the supplied hacked about software then I wouldn't use that laptop for anything else and not connect it to the internet as it has god knows what done to it.
