It would appear MB Accessories are about to offer retrofit Sat Nav Systems on the A ,B and C CLASS. Dashboard mounted--called Street Pilot II and Street Pilot II plus (GARMIN DERIVED) they are designed to integrate with the vehicles existing electronics. price 517 euros and 690 euros PLUS installation! AVAILABLE in Europe in November.see http://www.emercedesbenz.com/Oct06/...obile_Navigation_System_For_Retrofitting.html

PS dont know about earlier model application but would certainly be an open encouragement to car thieves to break into your car compared to the fully integrated systems!

the day has come

I never thought i hear the word of retro fit from mercedes in an official capacity! as as far as they are concerned they dont touch or carry out any form of retro fit. Interesting to see how the UK dealers will take to this. Thanks for the input

doesnt relly look like much of a retro fit to me,

like any other potable device, buy it and stick on the dash.

there are plenty of places that properly retrofit comand units,

www.comand.co.uk

i think also bba,

Mercedes has about 300 official retrofits for passenger cars. This is just another one. Perhaps.

And if you read it its not really a retrofit - it uses the car's speakers and power with a special bracket - i.e. just like an aftermarket phone kit with a speaker relay !
It doesnt say anything about directions being displayed in the cluster etc

I'd always retrofit COMAND / COMAND-APS. And yes, as Miro nicely points out MB dealers have official retrofitting instructions for COMAND-APS in A/B/C/CLK/... - its just expensive to have them do it.

would not mind a look at the actual mount though.....

Very nice option, let it park for 5 min in London and your lost not only your NAV box but have a lot of demage on your car too... broken windscreen etc... Don't really see the point of having a thing like that in my Mercedes while there are many integrated (APS 30 / COMAND / APS) options available...

Not everyone drives a Mercedes .... some people just garage them informally for used car dealers and mostly show their friends.

As Richard points out it is expensive to have Mercedes themselves retro fit COMAND. We've heard of people being charged upto £4,500:eek:

It doesnt have to cost anything like that;)

Yes. Miro points out that some people buy a Mercedes and dont drive it. They garage it and look at it. Hence no need for a navigation system!

Aha, but those people have so much money... so that vehicle will be loaded inc. COMAND. ;)
