You have insects where you live /drive ?! I remember when they were a real windscreen/motorcycle helmet visor problem. Not any more ...sadly.

I fitted tear offs to my visor years ago to help with this issue. Bit like this. Just a lot less bugs around in the UK these days.
My Engine bay is annoying me its got years of accumulated crud and dust all over, my normal method for sorting this sort of thing is a good drenching with Gunk or similar and a agitate with various brushes to get in the nooks and a good spray off with a low pressure hose followed by duck oil, however this car has all sorts of electronics under the bonnet so am worried about causing damage has anyone done this before and been ok, nothing looks like its going to be exposed but you never know

I've done it plenty of times; my wife's SLK, previously a BMW Z3 3.0 and recently my C200, all petrol versions. I use Surfex HD or now Screwfix degreaser, sprayed on and left to soak in for a little while, then various brushes as you say to agitate. I use a pressure washer, but stood back: In my view this is no worse than driving in heavy rain with water spraying up from the road, etc but the engine isn't running of course.
I then leave it a good while to dry off, maybe an hour or so and I wipe round with a microfibre and use detailing spray on the inner paintwork areas to help dry it further and polish them up a bit.
After that start the car up so the engine heat can dry the rest out before a test drive.
My C200 recently:

Much more pleasant when I work on the cars, but to be honest I just like it looking clean and it's not hard work with a quick result too.
