Oh lord won't you make a CDI convertible Benz?

I think the point to remember here is choice. I personally probably wouldn't opt for a diesel cabriolet just yet, but realistically if it's what people want, what does it matter?

If someone wants to buy such a car, and Mercedes-Benz don't offer one, they'll most likely look elsewhere (BMW, Audi, etc).

Only a few years ago, domestic use for diesel cars seemed unjustified - and even more recently, diesel coupes were rare sights. Today there's plenty of BMW, Audi and now MB coupes out there (wasn't the 209 CLK the first step for MB here?)

Maybe ;), though as a car dealer today, would you refuse to take ~ £30-40k of someone's cash in these times if they wanted to buy such a car?

People buy/spec some awful cars - eg cabriolets with non-heated cloth seats, clunky manual boxes, unpopular colours etc. If someone wants to spend the cash, let them have their choice :o

They can only spec those cars if you offer to sell them in the first place - sometimes it's a better idea to make decisions for people ;). It works for Rolls Royce after all.

Maybe that's why you are poor, spending all your money on petrol :D

make more sense to have a car that can better 20mpg, but i'm not particulally sensible. :D

I hope to be in the market for a used 4 seater convertible within the next year - probably in the £10k to £15k region. (Had previously thought an SLK may be sufficient but can now see that 4 seats will be more practical).
I like the torque of a diesel coupled to an auto box.
Don't particularly like BMW's, so the choices are Audi A4, Saab 9-3, Volvo C70. Without a CLK diesel option unfortunately MB probably won't make it onto the short list.

Don't forget that Merecedes-Benz did produce an AMG diesel powered car so my thoughts are that we will eventually see a diesel powered rag top :)

The 420Cdi is no slouch is not that noisey and will leave quite a few petrol powered vehicles in its wake.

Each to their own and go diesel go

I've never liked Audi's, but the new shape looks really nice... Mercedes better step its game up or it's gonna lose a few customers!
