Oh my word ...

Look at it from this point of view.

Do you need to go out and buy...

You'd be silly not to buy it!

Fair point but then where is the fun you'd get by modding a CLK430 (or anything else)

What am I talking about, AMG V8? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - Enough said :D

Look at it from this point of view.

Do you need to go out and buy an AMG kit?

It's got one.

Do you need to go out and buy AMG brakes?

It's got them.

Do you need to go out and buy AMG wheels?

It's got them.

Do you need to go out and buy an AMG exhaust?

It's got one.

Do you need to go out and buy AMG suspension?

It's got it.

Do you need to go out and buy an AMG engine?

It's got one.

Do you need to go out and buy an AMG cluster?

It's got one.

You'd be silly not to buy it!

and that's the kind of wonderful man logic we should all take as an example :)

Its a different car ....

Reg is S222 MEE on the month old one , and even allowing that it might be a personal plate ( albeit a terrible one ) the add from CP Cars in Nottingham says it's a Y reg ....

The one on Autotrader is on a X plate and is in Iver Heath ....

LOL, that'll teach me to look more closely when posting in a hurry (was at work...) ;)

I guess it was that there were two CLK55s, both silver, both 2001, both £5995 and both with 'high mileage' that I mentally linked together :o

Either way, both cheap cars there but ideally I'd like a slightly lower mileage one than the 140k one from a month back as a long term prospect. Wonder what the Iver Heath one has under it's belt?

There was a *really* nice, literally fully specced, 60K mile one being sold by a garage that went for around £8k several months back. That's why I think £6k for a high mileage one now is a 'fair' price. £5k would be a steal though!

Is it me, or is it suspiciously lowly priced...£5995 for a 2001 CLK55?????...even if it has got 140k on the clock...does seem a bit low.

Not so sure now - this is actually at least the second 2001 CLK55 for £5995 in a month.

There was a really high mileage one (190k) on eBay a while back, not sure how much that made.

And as in my post above, 50/60k milers don't seem to be making fortunes more - I think that they're a great buy, considering.

When does the 209 get replaced?

I think if you buy a car with high mileage, you should get one that is cheap to mantain, as no doubt you will have to throw money at it to keep it on the road, and AMGs clearly are not cheap to mantain as their parts cost a fortune.

Its not just the engine, but every other component on the car that has suffered the wear and tear of high mileage.

The bonus with high milage cars is;

1 They're cheap.

2 All the bits that tend to go wrong, have gone wrong and have been replaced.

Anything under 200k miles should not be too scary, these CLKs are 7 or 8 years old so they've only done 25k a year or so which is really that much...
