I am about to change the oil and filter on my V6 E280CDi 2006. When I bought the filter at the Mercedes garage I found that it was just the paper insert and 2 rubber washers. Is there anything I should be prepared for when changing the filter, and is it easily accessible from underneath the car. Do I have to remove any of the front end under-body spoiler stuff?
Thanks in advance for your help.

So the oil filter housing is reached from the top of the engine bay? Is it likely to make much of a mess when the filter housing is removed?
Thanks

If it's a similar design to my straight 6, then I hardly got any oil spillage at all when I unscrewed it. Providing the engine has been stopped for a few minutes, I think you'll find most of the oil drains back anyway. You almost certainly will need some sort of oil filter wrench to undo it though.

You need a "special" (but quite common) 27mm 6 sided socket to remove the filter housing - can get them in Halfords etc. Ideally you should use a torque wrench to tighten it back up again - to 25NM, I think. Note that it's made of plastic.
