Ordered an oil filter from GSF received this morning and the one I took out was in a metal container but the one GSF supplied wasn't,why do they put a metal cage round for because they are hardly going to break up without one are they.

Not engine section I know but I also bought a side repeater lens from them and it was wrong in there catalogue so phoned and gave all my car details and they still sent the wrong one, first time I have used them delivery was excellent but surprised they can't get things like a basic side indicator lens right.
Two pics for you to see the difference.

The metal container on the oil filter doesn't need to be replaced unless you damage it in removing it. Just tap the container on a tub, and the insert will pop out. Wipe clean with a lint-free cloth, insert the new filter and replace.

As for the repeater, can't help you there...

Hi Spinal

what I was saying was the old one I took out was encased in a metal cage but the one I bought from KSF was only the cardboard filter not in a cage

Hi

For bits and pieces like that i would always get the genuine MB items. Not worth the hassle i reckon.

Just my 2p's worth

To Dieselman and230K I won't be using them again the only reason I did was they get a lot of mentions on our forum.

I am not after doing jobs on the cheap but our local auto shops are a pain in the neck when you ask for Mercedes parts and the Bristol main dealer is a long and very busy way off from me.

Does anybody know the best place on the net to order genuine Mercedes parts I would really appreciate anybody's feedback on that.

We use GSF and Euro a lot... out of the two, Euro are more reliable.

You can specify non branded, OEM or MB parts.. they hold massive stocks and 99% of the time they are cheaper and quicker at getting the parts to your door.

they do get it wrong occasionally though.. i have been going round in circles trying to get them to send me the correct leads for my R107.. they sent me the correct plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap, but the leads they supply have a different fitting at the distributor cap! I have had three incorrect sets and still waiting.
Crazy...

Most garages and dealers will hold an account with Euro Car Parts.. they hold more stock than anyone and prices are just very very good.

I have bookmarked that one Dieselman that's just what I have been looking for.

Didn't have a side repeater lens just had a look

I have used GSF and ECP never had a problem, parts are always good quality and good price.
Friends garage uses both and delivery is prompt and reliable, I would,nt hesitate in recommending either of them.

Inchape charge £3 delivery so if your dealer is anymore than 7 miles away its cheaper than driving.

Are you sure the lens doesnt fit?
Ive seen them with diff tangs underneath and still MB.
You need to take a pic of BOTH together at the same time. Your 2 pix make them look diff sizes and confuses.. .
