Oil Leak in C180

I have a 1993 C180 and it has oil around the head gasket area. Obviously the first thought is that the head gasket is gone but on closer inspection there is no oil in the water or water in the oil. Also the engine runs very smoothly so is there any other possible source of an oil leak which would result in oil around the block at the head gasket area. Any advice would be welcome.

My guess is a slight leak from the front right of the head gasket which seals the front of the timing chain chamber.Seems very common and not to much to worry about IMO, about half of all Mercs with this engine type seem to have this from the ones I've seen !
On my C-180 1997 I cleaned this area and put some gasket sealant on the outside of the block which stopped a leak above the alternator area.A bit of a bodge but 18 months later it's still holding.
Mercedes updated the head gasket on later models in an attempt to stop this.

Is it maybe leaking from the rocker cover?
