Car
CLK 320 Cabrio, plus a few others!!
Can I ask for some feedback and advice as to how much I should be looking to sell my Mercedes for please. :o

Apologies first of all for not beong particularly active on the Forum and also for not being particularly clued up as to the up's / down's /in's / out's of Mercedes values and prices. I bought my car just over a year and a half ago and it just does what it says on the label... goes, stops, works wonderfully and has been great to own and drive.

It is a Mercedes CLK 320 Cabriolet Avantgarde Automatic and is Blue with Blue roof and light grey leather interior. Everything works like it should do, it passed its' MOT with no issues, it has a stainless steel sporty exhaust and lives in a heated garage so is generally a pampered car for sunny days and the like.

1st registered in April 2001, has had 4 previous owners, I bought it in August 2007 @ 60k miles. It is now reading 73,500 miles. It has been serviced in accordance with the computer at 11k, 18k, 29k, 43k, and 54k miles by MB and I shall have it serviced before selling.

Thanks in advance for the advice as I am sure many of you will know the market for these better than me. :)

Its a nightmare question.
Get the right buyer who is looking for exactly what you have got and you will get a good deal. However, you could struggle if nobody wants one come love or money.
It would be a brave soul who in this present climate could give you an accurate, reasonable answer to your poser.
Its a cracking car and an ideal summer drive - so you have timed it right in that respect.
A good indication would be the average price quoted in one of the car price guides available in newsagents. Extras, colour and location can sometimes lift or lower values depending, but not by much. Although having COMAND might have helped matters. Good luck.

However, I will stick my neck on the block and say I would expect that to retail for about £12,000 from a dealer.......therefore a bit less private. Maybe £10,000 or thereabouts. Car prices are really all over the place at moment and I have seen similar LOOKING cars for quite dissimilar money.

I am now preparing myself for a flaming............................

In the MB Club Gazette small ads recently, asking prices for Cabs have been:

* £17795 for a 2001 430 with 7k on the clock (two years ago)

* £7995 for a 2000 320 with undeclared mileage

* £8900 for a 1999 230 with 76k.

Other 208s range from just under £6k to £9750 for a 5.5 AMG with 74k.

Think what you paid for it and take off a percentage relevant to time / mileage. No idea what % but perhaps 25% isn't too far off....

In nearly two years........only 25% ? ?

I would estimate more like 50% to be practical and honest.

Remember, August 2007 was before the start of the price crash.............

We have a very similar late 2000 CLK 320 Cab in good condition (FSH, always garaged etc). We have been looking at other newer Cabs (either 350 or 500) and we have been offered part exchange on ours £4,000 by two garages without any haggling....we reckon we could have got this up to £4,500 or even £4,750.....

Selling privately we reckon we should be able to achieve something in excess of £5,000 depending on how quickly we wanted to sell.....we would probably put it on market for £6,750 initially.

That's a heck of a lot of car for the money...

Having been looking around at cars lately, it looks like you can get some amazing cars for peanuts. If I only had a garage...

Hmm... I havnt been looking at CLK cabs but maybe I should consider them instead of an SL. The prices are tempting for sure.

Sold for £10,000 to the Very Tall Gentleman at the back of the room. Congratulations on you purchase Sir, may I just take your details please :p

Thanks for the advice so far. The consensus seems to be somewhere between 10k and 6k at the moment. Any more thoughts?

I am not looking to use it as a p/x but have to confess that at p/x offers around 4-5k I would really just keep it and use it as/when it was a nice day.

Have you compared other similar cars on Autotrader, Pistonheads or eBay? I would reckon your car would sell for about £6500 - £7000 privately - just my guesstimate. I would be put off by the lack of recent servicing if it were me buying, You say it hasn't been serviced since you bought it, or at 54K miles, 19500 miles ago? I though CLK of this vintage (like mine) were annual servicing if you did low miles. That means the MB rust warranty is not valid. It is a lovely looking car though.

Those prices are absolutely ludacris. I was tempted by a 2000 plate cab 430 and it was priced at just under 8k with 80k miles on the clock... (this was 4-5 months ago when i had a sudden urge of wanting a V8)

But to come back to the point... I think in the real world if you got over £6500 that would be good, but 5800 sounds more realistic... i'm only judging by mileage and the description you've said... your car might be mint but it wont add more then a couple hundred quid.

just my 2p

What's it worth.

I wasn't particularly looking for another car but my neighbour was offered £7000 in part exchange for something else. He offered it to me in Nov 08 for the same price to give him a cash advantage when buying.
I took it. The car is a 2002 230K Elegance cabriolet with 80k on the clock. It also has factory fitted Avantgarde suspension. At the same time I saw a very nice 2000 230K Avantgarde for £8000 and not too good ones for about £6995 on retail sites.
