Hi I've a 2003 c class. I've damaged one of my key fobs and its beyond repair. So I've only got the spare one left.
Is there a cheap way of getting a new key ?
I'm worried if I lose or damage my key I'm completely screwed.
Thinking of selling car as I can't afford new key. Am I mad ?

There seem to be a lot of Merc owners with just one key, mine came with just the one, but like you I was concerned about the consequences of losing it or it breaking, so bought a new one. There are a couple of links on here to companies, other than a main dealer, who are supposed to be able to supply them but I don't think they are much cheaper. I ordered one from a main dealer and it cost £227 inc VAT and the metal blade. You get a new style chrome one. Supplied pre-programmed to the car and took about 5 working days to arrive. If you do decide to order one, you will need to take the V5, a form of ID (Passport/Driving Licence) and a recent Utility Bill.
In the meantime, look after that key.

Cheers grumpy.

Need to decide weather to part ex car or keep it and get new key.

I'm not sure, but would imagine that you can just buy the fob minus the metal blade key, in which case deduct £32 off the £227 if that's any help.

If it's just the key that's causing the thoughts of part-ex/selling, frankly that's a ridiculous idea. You'll lose the cost of the key many times over in the process.

For the first year with the SL we only had one key (took a while for Mercedes to work out how to reprogram the system as it appears the previous owner had been somewhat careless with keys). It just forces you to be careful.

^what he said!

£200 odd is a poor reason to change the car - particularly if it's pretty cool in other areas i.e. mechanically, good runner etc - a couple of tanks of gas - and to ensure you are not having to put any money into the deal will mean you are downgrading, and that means there are other hidden costs waiting for you around that corner.
Take care of the key!!
