I have bought a used 220CDI (2001) from a dealer. I am unable to open or close windows via remote key. Any suggestions.

You need to press and hold the lock/unlock button while pointing the key at the drivers door handle.

I have tried this with main both sets of keys that were supplied with the car with no joy. The dealer was saying that it may be an option, although I have my dought as my previous car which was older model had this facility.

Sounds like its broken .... sorry ...

have you tried changing the batteries in the remote?

Try pointing the key a a inch away from the door handle

I have found that you have to be pointing the key directly at the sensor that is mounted in the handle to get this to work rather than just in the direction of the car as would be the case for normal locking/ unlocking.

*** I should have read the previous posts... oops ***

I have tried all above. I shall take it back to the garage as it is still under warranty.

fods

the fobs have to be programmed to open and close the windows, its a simple sequence using the buttons on the fob and the ignition but i cant remember how,the service reception told me at my local dealer

My remote closes the windows after approx 5 seconds of pressing the 'lock' button and pointing the remote directly and the IR sensor on the drivers side door handle, from close range.

However - it doesn't open them. Should it?

stupid question maybe, but you are pressing the 'unlock' key when you're trying to open the windows?

I 'think' it should open them.

Does on E Class, and CLK. no reason to think why they would allow you to close but not open them, great for those really hot (greenhouse) days when you disarm the alarm and open all 4 windows to let the heat out.

My previous C Class C220 only closed the windows and sun roof (1995). However my new C220CDI (2001), according to manualll should open and close the windows. I have tried pointing directly at the sensor on the driver door handle, etc.. but no luck. If anybody knows how to programme the FOD (see above message from mercamanuk) then please advise.

Mine opens and closes all windows and sunroof with the key aimed at either the drivers or passengers door.

When you unlock the car, does every door unlock or just the driver's door? If it's just the driver's door then it's on the higher-security setting and I'm not sure if the windows will open or close with the fob. To change this press the lock and unlock button at the same time and keep them held down for about 8 seconds, the LED on the fob will flash when it's done. You can swap settings back the same way if you don't like it.

After reading this thread I thought I would check my C220, yes it opens and closes the windows with the key fob but only as already been said by pointing it directly at the drivers door.
My key fob is set to max security.

Problem solved. It had to be programmed at the garage.
Thanks everyone for comments.
