Reversing in a very tight spot and failed to notice a low drystone wall (parktronic also failed to notice it, not that this is an excuse..)

Happily only just grazed the plastic bumper and at very slow speed. There is no indentation, it has only just taken the paint off. First time I have damaged a vehicle, feeling pretty bad!

Any thoughts on best way to repair? Is this likely to polish out?!

Ouch indeed. I would say it wouldn't polish out as you have lost paint. It MAY colour polish (don't think it would look great though) but I would think a visit from a dent repairer/scratch fixer would be the way to go. Otherwise, it's bumper off at the body shop.

Thanks. Anyone any experiences of using one of these mobile scratch repairer people in the Manchester area?

Did exactly the same and Parktronic didn't see it. That was some time ago and I look at the damage every day trying to persuade myself that the bodyshop quote of £400 is OK. Have tried the home scratch repairers in the past which are fine if the damage is pretty well out of sight. If not it can still be seen. As said by Giantvanman there really is no alternative to the bodyshop. It is the only guarantee of a good finish.

I've tried smart repair, on a black bumper, and after a few months it started to show a difference. Just might have been unlucky.

Its very dependent on the skills of the particular SMART repairer. Some seem to be pretty poor but I have seen some excellent repairs too. As that one is out of site due to being low down you would easily get a SMART repair done there.

I have had two Smart repairs... all lasted no problem. So low down I would say it would be £100 well spent.

I know it doesn't help but I once turned the front wing of my Porsche onto the garage wall by mistake.... only me to blame.

I feel your pain! I did it a couple of years back reversing into the entrance of a caravan park to turn around.. it was pitch black and I managed to catch the rear bumper in the same place as you did, about 12 inches high and long un a huge piece of Portland stone.

Trouble was the previous owner had had it resprayed in an unknown candy apple red with some kind of shimmering effect to the finish. I reckon the repair would have cost way more than the car was worth!

Call Dan Normanton on 07967 320 630 if it's south Manchester or John Hughes on 07966 196 680 if it's north.

They both work for the Revive franchise and both are time served panel beaters and sprayers. Both have done work for me on various vehicles and the results have always been spot on.

They are not ludicrously cheap, but it's far more convenient and still cheaper than a bodyshop. Given the damage to yours from what I can see they will have no problem achieving a 'good as new' finish.
