Hi All

As you will know I'm looking at a car for SWMBO and have found a nice 300 bhp Volvo S60 which should keep her happy for a while ;)

Problem is its in metallic black but there are a lot of swirls and dull patches on the car which I am sure is beyond my level of skill to remove. After seeing soem of the detailing and paint rectification that has been posted on here in the past my questions are

Could the swirls dull bits be taken out and it all put back to a nice metallic finish?

What is the likely cost of this so I know what my negotiating limits are with the dealer?

Is there anybody on here does paint rectification? Although I'm in Yorkshire I'm quite willing to travel and leave the car if necesscary, I really need someone I can trust.

I realise the above is difficult without seeing photos but hopefully going back tomorrrow to have another chat with the dealer and see what we can do, so all help would be welcome.

Thanks

Speak to Jay, if you're going to the GTG next w/e it could be done whilst you're there.

I did something similar to my father's car before he sold it.....I think it took me 6 hrs, without any electric polsihers etc. IMHO it looked very good with all swirls removed. It's just very hard manual labour :)

A friend of mine cured it with G10, but it does weaken the paint overall as it removes a whole layer.

It all depends on how bad it is... A good valeter shouldnt charge more than £50 to body mop and polish the paint... However if the swirls are deep then a detailer may be required who tend to charge around £150-£200 for the same job.

Thanks Jay, going back this afternoon to open negotiations so I'll work on £300 for the paint rectiifcation, swirls dont look deep but front door just below the body strip is dulled, no sign of it having being previously painted though :dk: Apart from these couple of issues car is mint mechanically and interior wise although I do like black but thought I had seen the last of black cars when I got rid of my Legacy but looks like SWMBO just likes keeping me busy washing and polishing on Sundays.

Thanks for the info and looking forward to the GTG Sunday

best regaards
Ian
