Parking Sensors not working

As the title it looks like one of my sensors has packed up. Two red LEDS on the front keep lighting from time to time and the same when I select reverse then the system switches itself off when moved to Park. The question is can I buy one colour coded from MB, are they easy to fit, is there a way of detecting which sensor has gone without STAR and more importantly does anyone have a part No. S211 2005.
Also is it part of the new MOT test

Mine are playing up too.

I mentioned it when my car was in for service but of course it didn't play ball and they couldn't find anything wrong! Since then it has got much worse and I have to deactivate it or it deactivates itself. Sometimes they work fine, most often when I first start up but then I get the red leds and warning tone soon after. I think mine maybe to do with braking which could suggest a bad connection but..... I haven't had a chance to look.

I have read threads on this before and besides the obvious things like dirt on the sensors etc, it could be difficult to isolate which sensor is at fault.

Just doing this with mine.

Bet someone corrects me but.

You need to plug a star box in to the car to get it to tell you the problem.

Then you have to get parking sensors and spray them and and and.

The good old days were great without so many electrics in some ways!!! Hey Ho.

i have the same issue on my ML where the dash LED's light up but do not detect anything front or back. What is the star box to help diagnose the issue? Is this something specialised Merc mechanic would have or any garage?

The star will tell you which sensor is playing up i have one that does occasionally but its not a cheap fix (mine hates rain)

Hello HTG,

I had two fail during the ownership of my previous S211.

Both rears, behind the wheels,. where they pick up all the road crud/water.

Easy to change, no tools required, not even a jack - just lie underneath and unclip.

STAR will tell you which one, but you may be able to deduce by checking the back wheel ones first.

They come up on ebay from time to time.

Thanks for that John I'll check that out. Just concerned about getting the same colour as the car is Cubanite Silver.

Ummm .. sorry not sure if its buzz working or buzz not working. I assumed the first as it isn't dead!

My thoughts are on colour matching as you have to get them sprayed?? No??

Developer215 is right.

I had same problem with my w164, Star reported the two rear extreme sensors faulty, when bumper was removed, the sensors were covered with mud, replaced both of them and to prevent the same happening again, I covered the two extreme sensor with an aerosol cup .
No problem since then.

I had a feel about (unsighted, as couldn't be ****d to lay on the ground - lol!) around the 2 rear sensors yeaterday and removed some crud. Since then the sensors have been behaving themselves, so maybe thats all that is required - fingers crossed.

A beautiful sunny day today and the sensors are working fine. I had a look at the rear ones, removed the covers and cleaned some odds and SIDS off them so hopefully the damp weather was the problem

I've just had my w220 on STAR and my rear left one is showing as faulty. The genuine part is approx £51 +vat from Mercedes, a can of spray from Mercedes or local paint shop is approx £15.

Apparently too much paint can stop them working, in my case my rear bumper has been painted at some time and it's going in again to be done properly (previous owner did it on the cheap). Im going to lightly scotch the sensor, compound it etc. and see if it starts to work, if not I'll just have to buy a new one and have it painted at same time as bumper.

I wondered why my front parking sensors were not working, the rear ones are fine, then I noticed that there are no sensors on the front of my SL ,ah well such is life.
