My parking sensors stopped working with a continuous beep, then started working again. Then they stopped working again, so I took the car to a merc specialist and they tell me 2 at the front and 1 at the back is not working.
Could it be possible there is corrosion on the connections . I have been given a price of £420+vat to fix it. Is that about right?

Any ideas if this is right?

I am in a similar situation, my parking sensors work fine for a week, or more, then one day they have a fit and I get the 2 red bars and the dash switch lights to say its disabled, then the next day all works again, very intermittent.

STAR diag at merc show 4 sensors are playing up, 3 messages were stored, indicating that those modules were working at the point of test, however one was not working causing the red bars/parktronic disabled.

Merc quoted me £170 to replace the single faulty one, they said its expensive because the bumper has to come off.. if you are replacing more than one module, and both bumpers have to come off, then the price you have been quoted seems about right to me considering the prices I was given for one sensor...

Perhaps find a local independent merc deal and get a quote from them for the work? They should certainly be much cheaper than main dealer, typically 50% cheaper in my experience.

Good luck.

On the other forum there is a new thread on how to do it yourself on an E Class which looks pretty similar. It doesnt involve taking off the bumper ....

Other forum? Could you be kind enough to supply a link? I would be grateful as I would like to read that one my self, thanks in advance.

Me too. How hard is it taking a bumper off?

Hang on let me try that again !

Hmmmmm let me try something else .....

Looks like I cant post the link on here !

Look at posts by Turbo Merc or search for E Class (w211) Parking sensor removal

Sorry guys but this site wont let me post the web address of the other site !

You could try going to m.e.r.c.e.d.e.s.c.l.u.b.org.uk (without all the full stops!!) and then the DIY > DIY:electrics section look for "E Class (W211) Parking sensor removal - How I did it" Probably the top most thread

If you type the obvious word starting with an m and add to that club then dot then org then dot then uk you should get there !
I will probably now get banned for trying to steer you there but many are members of both forums and I am only trying to help

Whitenemesis thanks ....... Whats the problem with linking to the other site ? Lots on here post on both ......

Thank you both for the info, I hope no one gets in to any bother for trying to help out another MB owner.. Perhaps now I can get my parktronic to stop bleeping at me every few days! Much obliged!!

You are welcome Sema. This is a very friendly and useful site as I hope you will discover over time. I am sure the link thing is no big deal.
