Well, the holidays are over. Egypt is now far, and my woes are near. Hence, you lot are gonna suffer with me (jk :P)

Can anyone check if the number:
202 500 58 03
seems right for a W202 ('96) radiator?

I found it on a sticker on the side of my radiator, but a radiator from an almost identical car (only difference is '94) is '202 500 20 03'

Thanks in advance,
Michele

Perfect, thanks :)

I'll call the stealership tomorrow and see if they will also fit it (assuming they can get a truck to bring the car there; its at my local mecchanic atm...)

Russian parts site gives radiator part no as 202 500 2203?? (similar to your friends?) Couldnt find 202 500 580 but maybe from a newer model. Merc often do this, an old part no is superceded by an equivalent part from newer model. If the car is running well dont worry just means you possibly have had the radiator renewed at some time.http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...417717.418&CT=F&cat=44V&SID=50&SGR=015&SGN=01
fitting a new radiator isnt rocket science. I'm sure your local mechanic could do this at a fraction of the costof the dealership. get the part from MB by all means. If you have lost coolant take the opportunity to renew it 50% water 50% MB antifreeze (use the proper stuff cos its got the correct inhibitors)

Thanks... and I wish... My radiator exploded 2 days before I was due to leave the country. I had to pay £150 to get the car towed home (teaches me to not look at what RAC membership I sign up too...)

Apparently, (searching the forumns) this doesn't seem like a very isolated incident... bah... Now I need to get the radiator replaced(exploded), get the door replaced(accident) and get the bonnet resprayed (explosion cracked the paint)... I'll probably just get the whole car resprayed while I'm at it... maybe black  Also, when the rad is fitted, I need to get the water pump checked; so that might lead to a further problem <sigh>

Meh, I'm off... gotta fetch my dad from gatwick in the monster... my 21st is coming up in a couple of days, so my whole family is arriving... this will be a scary couple of days!

Just got off the phone with a merc guy in Heathrow. Very friendly I must say. I was put through to the spare-parts department, then I asked whether part 202-500-5803 has been superceeded, and he couldn't find it on the system. After a quick check using the cars VIN, the "new and improved" radiator I need to get is a 202-500-6103 (correct as of 4-9-06) and costs £131.43+VAT (around 155£).

They have it in stock, so I'll pop by this afternoon and grab that... does anyone know the part number for the plastic fan-guard that clips onto that is? I couldn't find any number of the guard itself... hmm, I'll have to ask them in person when I get there...

Ok, just got back from the dealership with a new radiator and £170 (roughly) lighter. I must say, the radiator looks ALOT bigger and heavier when its fitter... its... DINKY!

Anyhow, the people at the dealership were VERY kind, he even suggested a reason that the radiator blew... i.e. the viscous fan is gone. Got home, and as my dad is around for my birthday (yesterday) and hes a merc guru (I've seen him taking apart an S-class engine, and putting it back together; ball bearing by ball bearing... scary thing...) I grabbed his help. The fan does seem to spin a bit too losely/independently from the fan belt, but I can't really test it until I have the new radiator/coolant fitted.

Hence, tomorrow I'm going to call around to get a fan-guard (I asked the guy at the dealership if he knew the part number, and he looked it up, then started explaining about the viscous fan and we both forgot about the guard :P). The radiator is something I DEFINETLY wanted new, but the plastic fan guard can even come from a breaker imo; so tomorrow I'm giving mercman a call... lets see if he knows the part number :P

Last but not least, there are 4 clips holding the radiator to the car, 2 plastic and 2 metal. The two plastic ones have have little rubber feet; one of which is shredded. Any ideas where I can get these? or do I need to pop back to the dealer?

wee, thats done (took ages as I got interrupted to order 4 easymobiles in the process... weird...)
