Passenger window acting up

My passenger window is playing up - when I tell it to go up, it tends to (about half the time) stop at some point on its way to the top and return to where it started. Any ideas?

It's a W208 CLK.

More than likely a torn rubber channel with a protrusion causing the anti-trapping safety system to activate.

There is more than likely some obstruction in the window path.

Check the rubber channel for rips and repair as required.

It tends to be at a random point on the way up, not the same one each time.

any other problems? do the interior lights work and go out when you close the doors? i ask as a broken door pin switch will do this, they are located on the body just below the door lock catches.

The hall sensor in the motor maybe at fault. or the resistance from dry window rubbers is too great and activates the anti-trap feature.

Is there a DIY solution? e.g. bit of WD40 or something along those lines.

If the hall sensor is faulty then its a new motor.

It is best to use silicone spray on the runners.Try a re-set the window too. The instructions are in your handbook and on this forum. Do a search.

Would someone with a STAR be able to re-sync it , like we tried on my old cabrio Olly ?

What's a STAR? I know the previous owner tried to get this fixed - Merc dealer upgraded the software or something (which gave him speed on the dash screen for the first time) but it didn't fix it.

It's more a minor irritation that a terminal problem.

I've tried having a quick look for the guide alluded to earlier but can't see it - will look some more soon.

Is there anything I should be aware of when removing the door cards? I want to have an exploratory look behind it this weekend, but am aware the presence of door airbags might be an issue. Is it? Pictures welcome! :thumb:

the hall sensors can play up. they provide a signal which is read by the DCM, basically the dcm counts the pulses to see where the window is. these pulses, if inconsistent, will not be trusted by the DCM and it will go into a saving your fingers mode. IIRC the clk DCM also monitors window motor current. on saloon cars with frames around the windows they do not have the hall sensors, just using current monitoring to manage the auto up/down. the clk has the sensors mainly to enable the function where it drops down slightly when you open the door.

The W210 is a sedan and it has hall sensors. The sedan model needs to know where the window is, it needs to know if it reaches the bottom or the top position or if movement stops because an object preventing the window closing, in which case it needs to back up.

But if you say those sensors fail with a reasonable probability compared to the actual motor or the door control module, this would be useful to know (even if it was for a bit different car).
