I have just bought a secondhand 6310i to go in the arm rest phone cradle on my 2004 E Class, unfortunately something isn't working. The phone on its own appears to be working perfectly and all the connectors look fine.

Does anybody know why the Audio20 just says "Processing" and the console display says "Wait"?

I am assuming it is reading the Phonebook entries although there are only 7 entries in the SIM card and none in the phone. I drove for 25 minutes and it still said "Processing" so I guess something must be wrong?

I have checked the phone and it has v7.00 firmware. I am not sure about the firmware in the car though.

The part number on the car cradle is A211 820 14 15.

I do know that the Audio20 was replaced by the dealer just before I picked the car up. Apparently the radio had poor reception when they did their checks.

Anybody got any ideas please?

can you dial using the phone in the cradle ? I mean actually dial on the phone not the radio controls - I can do that when mine is "processing" - but it shouldnt take 25 minutes - more like a minute max

The phone shows the little car symbol to say that it is in Car profile. The keypad on the phone works and when I dialled a number it displayed "Call". The CD kept playing throughout and I couldn't hear any ringing from the phone if I am supposed to. It was all silent.

I think that that PSE is for the Nokia 6210 the older version of he 6130i. the later PSE works with both the 6210 and the 6130i.

Try and pick up an old 6210.

I guess that might explain things. I couldn't find a reference for the part number, but the dealership just told me it was for a 6310.

Does anybody know for sure before I have to get rid of my newly acquired 6310i and find another phone?

With some searching I found this thread which suggests that a member is using this part number cradle with a 6310i

Complaint 1st possibility: After exchanging an Audio 20 CD in a vehicle with hands-free system (code 380/382) the "Processing" message is shown in the display of the instrument cluster / Audio20 CD.

2nd possibility: When retrofitting a UPCI hands-free system (code 386/388) in a vehicle with Audio 20 the "Processing" message is shown in the display of the instrument cluster / Audio20.

Cause The software in the Audio 20 CD A 211 820 97 89 / A 211 820 98 89 does not support the UPCI control unit (code 386/388), but only the Nokia telephone control unit (code 380/382).

Remedy Re. item 1:
Use the part number for the Audio 20 CD as described in the EPC (A 211 820 97 89 / A 211 820 98 89).
Caution!!: Please pay attention to the model year (code 803 or 804) as the vehicle was built before 05/04!

Re. item 2:
Use the part number for the Audio 20 CD as described in the EPC (A 211 870 11 89 / A 211 870 12 89).
Caution!!: Please pay attention to the model year (code 805) as only this part number is approved for the UPCI hands-free system (code 386/388).

i hope this helps.

Thanks for that, I will contact the dealer today. I have the 380 option so maybe they fitted a newer head unit by mistake.

I will let you know the outcome.

Update

Looks like it was even simpler than that.

There is a pin on the Phone cradle that is slightly bent and not sitting level with the other pins (see below). The MB Tech said that this is a common fault with this cradle.

As I have Service Plus they are going to replace the whole cradle and workings etc. They can't just unclip the phone cradle part as it is the older style so they said it would take a few hours to replace it all.

Glad I have Service Plus now. :D I wonder how much it would have cost me without it?

Thanks

We have a new bluebook interface module that fits into the fixed nokia phone cradle in all non UHI, pre 2004, Mercedes Benz vehicles giving full steering control and phone book transfer.
The unit we have been all waiting for.

Sounds interesting, where can I find more out about this?

I am on my third cradle for this very reason. Do need to be careful.

Update

Well they replaced the cradle and it made no difference.

They then decided that the head unit was the wrong part number after I had convinced them with the information provided from here. They ordered the new part and fitted it this yesterday, although they were complaining that they were having problems coding it to the car!

It now seems to see my phone and looks OK but the microphone doesn't work. They think this might be an issue with the coding still!

I now have to take it back in two weeks time and leave it with them for a few days while they figure it out.

I guess the good news is that it won't cost me anything for all this, but this seems like a lot of hassle just to get the factory fitted phone kit working again!

Is this normal?
