Whilst it may be large, if you want to see realism at it's best make a trip to Pendon Museum at Long Whittenham near Abingdon. Didcot Railway centre is nearby as well if you want to really get a "train fix"
Pendon is a fabulous place - the sheer dedication that's gone into it is mind-boggling. My dad used to take me there in the 70s; last summer, back in Oxfordshire after a long absence, I took the Beestlings to see it. It's developed a lot in 30 years - more accessible than before, but still with that feeling of being the labour of love of a band of enthusiasts. A connection to a lost world of beards, pipe smoke and amazing things done in garden sheds.
One warning if you're visiting: take the smallest car you have. The improved accessibility doesn't extend to the car park, and it was quite a task to turn our Toyota Verso round in it; I wouldn't fancy that in our E220 estate!
