Car
Mercedes C200 from 2005
Hi, i was driving in Germany my car a Mercedes C200 from 2005 engine 2.1 CDI and i had around 130mph when my engine was stopped, i can't see any smoke behind and i don't hears nothing strange, coolant temperature was normal and outside was around 39°C. First time i was thinking is about fuel pump or some sensor.. i was trying few times to restart the engine but he didn't start, after i bring my car back in Uk and i opened the engine i was shocked when I saw what's happened there, one piston complete melted and other two was affected.. I don't know and i don't understand why happens that.. is true 2-3 months before I was add some additives for injectors

Now I'm thinking to replace my engine, and I saw on this engine I have the same code with that engine from C220 the diference is that one is 2.2CDI 150bhp and don't know sure if i can do that if that one is fixing with my car :) I'm waiting for some advices. Thanx

You drove it too quickly for an 15 year old and no doubt worn engine , how many miles had it covered. When did you last change the engine oil and filter?

Just 3 days before i change the oil and filter, everything was changed on time.. before don't eat oil nothing was running perfectly.. the consume was around 7l/100km mixt.. in dover when i fill up i had 5l/100km

If the pistons are melted ( I assume you have taken the cylinder head off to see this), I’d suggest scrapping the car and buying another.

Oh dear, well there is not much else you could have done , something must have failed catastrophically.

Sounds like it might be uneconomic to repair now, sell as parts unless you are particularly attached to it

Look guys I'm interested if you meet before something like that or if you have some knowledge about what i want to do.. to replace my engine with another one a little bit bigger and stronger same tipe W203..

Ofcourse i took of the cylinder head and your suggestion is not helping me :) , I'm professional Driver and i have some knowledge on mecanic( general mechanic) but something like that i don't meet before for that I'm asking

Was it really consuming (using) 7 litres of oil every 100km?

Or is that what was in the sump?
Mom guessing English is not your native language so I’m trying to understand better what work you did and what condition the engine was in before you maxed it out.

Me wos tinkin it done good to stay good coolant temp at 130mph in 39 degrees.

But bye bye engine.
If the motor is a lovely example then dropping the 220CDI in might be worth the effort,
But I'd have thought moving on to another good example would be preferable, especially for a proffessional driver who needs the motor for revenue, I assume.

A well maintained CDI should be able to sit at that speed all day long with no issues.

Well that one didn't
Which is why I said ‘should’... :) Something has obviously gone badly wrong with the OPs car, but the age of his car hasn’t got anything to do with it. :)

And the max speed as shown in the specs for the model is 129 mph! I would have thought thrashing a 15 year old engine at max speed would be asking for trouble. We have a well maintained 15 year old Toyota and I would not do that even though we have found it to be 100% reliable for the last 3 years.

He is referring to the fuel consumption....
7l/100km is about 40mpg.

Driving a car at its maximum speed on a motorway should not cause the pistons to melt...

If that was oil I think you would be counting engines per 100km,
so just losing 1 would be ok really.
I can’t believe no one else realised. :D

Not maximum speed, but I drove a CLK220CDi non stop from S. France to Glasgow in 20 hours. Subtracting a ferry crossing and fuel stops, that equated to 16 hours driving at an average of 75mph.
The engine was still like new after that and even at 150,000 miles burns no oil between services.
