PLEASE HELP Central locking issues

Hi, my 2003 C180 will not unlock or open on the key fob. The red light on the key does flash when pressed but nothing. Sometimes it works about 1 times in 20 and if you go right up to the sensor on the door handle it works if you put key right next to sensor and press several times. IT has gone back to the garage now who have tried putting new batteries in but still no joy. Any ideas??

Test your alarm and check fuses relating to central locking/ alarm.

I had this problem and it was down to the battery . Is it on its way out.
