Hi all,
Have checked about on the forums a bit and read articles online before posting, but wanted to check with someone who has some knowledge of this.
My power steering pump is making a stressed, groaning, creaking noise whenever I turn the wheel. Doesn't have to be full lock, its any slight moving of the wheel results in the pump sounding under stress. The noise is only when I move the wheel, even an inch to one side.
The noise is audible from the drivers seat with the bonnet closed and driver side window open.
I have changed the auxiliary belt and will look to flush the old hydraulic fluid out for new (likely never changed).
Just wanted to know if these pumps usually run noisy like this, or if this is a sign of an issue?
The steering often feels heavier than it should, sometimes becoming lighter. I also found the steering fluid was low when I purchased the car so topped it up at the time. Concerned that the low fluid has knackered the pump as they are a pricey part!
Thanks in advance.
