What is best? Get the dealer to register the car, and then assign the plate yourself?
Give the transfer doc (and plates if made up) to the dealer and get them to sort it?

And what happens at resale time if you choose the latter?

TIA

The latter. You can then go on,one before selling and put it on retention then they allocate you a plate. Just did it on my new car.

It is very quick and you can do it online,I have always had the original registration on the car and then changed it,that way you have the old plates as you nearly always get the old registration back when you sell the car,if your car is registered with your plates then I suspect it might take longer for new plates to be issued, when you sell it not sure I have never done it that way

It depends on the dealer. Some will do it, some prefer not to as it can take longer.

I got the dealer to do the whole thing. They didn't charge any extra and saved me the hassle....
