After much head scratching and various opinions, i suspect that my oil pump may soon need replaced (nicely links into other posts about engine rattle at idle).
I would imagine that as everything else this is not an easy job.
Has anybody undertaken this task on a '98 C43? Is it an engine out job, or am i likely to be surprised that this is an easy fix?

I'm pretty sure you will need to access the front timing case to check the pump chain drive tensioner as well as removing the sump to access the pump. All in all much easier to get an oil tight rebuild setup on an engine stand than in the car? I'm sure BlackC55 will know.

It is possible to do it in car but will be a pain. Removing the sum will be the hardest part. You will need to lift the engine off its mountings to do it and lift it as high as it will go. The front timing case can be left on, but keep tension on the chain as that spring is oh so fiddly.
