Fast forward to a couple of months ago and I had the car professionally detailed/machine polished. Wish I had done it sooner - looks miles better. Stunning as it does look currently though,

You nearly got away without showing us. ;)

I would definitely recommend Vince to anyone in the Midlands to the North of England.

Nice, a friend has a silver e class with those exact wheels, they really suit the car

I believe their off the E320 Sport facelift.

I think 18's will look even better on the car. Rear alloys are slightly bigger than the fronts.

Not looking forward to purchasing tyres. I've just had to fork out £300 to AndyGayle for a service (Not happy about the price or customer service at all)

How much is a full top quality 100% respray??

I would have thought with prep and masking, removing trim etc ...a small fortune...

If you are getting a re-spray think about this clear coat.

TI - Glasurit Layout

You can polish out all scratches IF your current clear coat is thick enough - get it measured, AND the scratches are not too deep. I have done this to one of my cars - honestly! Hard work though, takes skill and bright lights with patience.

Gtechniq provide a great range of protectants for paint, I think their C1 with EXO over it is the best scratch resistance you will get. Wash your car with a running hose and your bare hand, [so you can immediately feel any grit if it isn't flushed away by the running hose water]. Works a treat - except in winter - then use the two bucket method with warm water if you like. With proper washing, 2002-925 clear, Gtechniq C1 with EXO over the top of the C1 you will be good to go with no more scratches - unless you are married or have children or both. :):)

There are a few highly recommended Indies in Birmingham who frequent these forums. :thumb:

[Update]

Quoted £1,000 for paints, roof moulds and panel strips (labour not included in price)

Work underway

Has this been finished? Were you pleased with results?

OP hasn't visited here since 17/06/14 which seems strange. How long does a respray take?

I must admit I didn't expect an update, the initial posts were all a bit 'emotional', I've noticed when people are like that they tend to have a flurry of posts and then return about a year later.

Interesting little thread. About 14 years ago, I bought a Saab convertible brand new in black. As it had to come from the other end of the country, it was delivered direct to me by the dealer. He was most put out when I refused it for the same exact reason our friend was complaining about. The bonnet was a mass of swirling and looked bloody awful. Told him to take it away and PDI it properly as on closer inspection, I found lots of marks on the interior. SWMBO was most pout out as it was a sunny day and she had wanted to go out for a 'pose' drive LOL The car arrived another two times before it got accepted and I never bought another Saab.
