Hi all

Just received my "new" e500 wheels for my 124 coupe:devil: . They are gorgeous (in my very humble opinion). Thank you all involved in their purchase.

So whilst I am very pleased with them I want to protect them as best I can - so my question is what should I coat them in to make then easier to keep clean?

thanks in advance,

Matt

this stuff sounds good, nano thingamyjiggy

lets have some pics when you've put them on, also let me know if the car feels any different than with 8 hole originals [ as on mine ]

Jetseal 109 is pretty good too, as well as the poorboys.

I use the Turtle wax Brake dust barrier and it works well - after reading the Autotrader article, I may well give their nano one a blast as well

I couldn't find the nano one anywhere

I used Halfords Alloy Wheel protector.

I didn't think it would make that much difference, but now I swear by the stuff - my alloys have a difficult design which meant a set of cotton-buds to get to the smallest places, but now they really are just wash-off and re-spray with protector each clean.

Must have saved me hours and hours over the past couple of years.

Mind, at my age, walking into Halfords is more embarrassing than buying condoms at Boots as a lad... :D

Thanks for all the advice guys. Will try one of them when I put wheels on which may not be for a few weeks yet so no pictures yet I am afraid

i still use the old winter wheels as the salt on the roads in scotland is mean stuff on alloys

I have a set of winter wheels , but i'm doubting whether i'll be bothered to change them over to be honest .... i'm too lazy .. :o

I used the Autoglym product last March and have only cleaned the car a couple of times since and I must say that although the wheels were absolutely thick the brake dust, esp the front ones, they were an absolute doddle to clean. I was very generous when applying the product. As a spray it’s easy to ensure good coverage in all the awkward corners of the wheels.

Will be swapping to winter / wheels tyres shortly and will give the summer a wheels a good clean and re-treat them before putting them away for the winter.

Wrt the referenced test it seems to me that three weeks isn’t a very demanding time frame.

Wheels have a painted finish so treat them, as you would the bodywork, regularly with the best wax you can get

This company http://www.gtechniq.com/index.htm make more expensive coatings with nano-tech properties which are reputedly longer lasting- I think C3 for alloys

I ordered the C4 from them last week for applying to black trim. Seriously expensive @ £23 for 15ml, but it is supposed to last two years and there are some very good reviews.

Will be interested to hear how you get on with it.
I am currently in process of trying out their wiper resistant windscreen rain repellant....

when i detailed my car this weekend, i cleaned the alloys as normal but then applied some of that Silver Coloured Wax (as i had some left over from my previous silver car).

The wax means that the brake dust and dirt will just wipe off really easily next time i wash the car

I like Wonder Wheels. Some poeple say its too harsh, but i've never had a problem with it.

R222 gel cleaner, followed by some Poorboys sealant.

However, this is mainly for the Civic, the finish on the Volks is pretty delicate so acid-based cleaners are a big no-no.
