Pub Bashing

Do they design pubs to look like 70s council houses around your way then??? 😄

Quite a good impact for what looks to be a straight piece of road!!

Yes, it is a straight road in a 30mph limit but with a cross roads. The minor road is also dead straight across the 'main' B1113 which can give the illusion of that being the right of way....if you don't happen to clock the numerous signs, road markings etc ...and are dreaming! The sight lines are quite good so operator error is really the only excuse.

I think they get a high 6 for that remodelling job, hopefully no one injured and the pub has another door so it can still open?

I have no other information about the incident, but I believe the pub has another door from the car park behind. It never seems to be overcrowded, and I have never been in....on foot or in my car;)

They are closing at the rate of about one per day , Maybe this is the excuse the brewery were looking for to turn it into flats and sell the car park to the highest bidder.

A practice that has been going on around our way for a while , they just buy up and sit out the 'change of use' period.

A pub in a nearby village, The Swan at Little Chart, has had the same problem a couple of times, it's just after a 90degree right bend at the bottom of a hill and has twice at least had an SUV through the front door. Building is listed so getting the repairs done was fun, must have cost the insurers a fortune not just for the repairs but also renting a large marquee and outside bar for months so the pub could keep trading. After the first incident local planning allowed them to put bollards up, but not really solid, not much more than markers. After the second incident, about 18 months after the first, they were allowed to put proper metal bollards concreted in as replacement for the destroyed marker type!

I noticed that somebody has made a very poor attempt to turn our local pub into a drive-thru over the weekend:eek::confused:

Takes gate crashing to a whole new level. Is it just a trick of the lens, or does that front wall have a worrying looking bow in it?

My 'local' when I was a lad was a pub called the Red Lion in Shepperton, Middlesex - this is on an essentially straight B road with a 30 limit:

We were late getting there one night and arrived to find that someone had managed to plant a large Mercedes saloon through the bay window at the front of the pub, wiping out our normal table (which was fortunately unoccupied at the time).

The car looked to have sustained rather less damage than the pub :D

No trick of the lens, the sides of that window are anything but parallel now .....

Just glad we weren’t there that day. That corners a favourite spot to drink and watch the world go by.

Nah! Just rushing to get in before happy hour closed....

I lived on the Middlesex/Surrey border and back then there was a 30 minute difference in closing time from one side to the other on one night (Friday or Saturday?). So you could nip across the river and catch last orders again on the other side :)

I'm led to believe that the area is inundated with those little Bentley Bentayga thingys.? Would 2-3 tonnes count as reasonably substantial I wonder.??
Well it is only a couple of hundred yards from this spot here....but I know exactly where this Bentayga was all weekend.....;)
