Put it in drive and it did'nt!

Strange thing happened this morning.

Put the gear lever in drive and nothing happened, i.e. no forward movement just reving engine

Put the lever back to park then back into drive and off we went!

Any ideas please

Sounds like what the dealer would call a " feature" or the electronic brain not working as it should ... once i suppose is alright but keep an eye on it

It's actually the 3rd time it has happened which is why I thought I would post.

Do you think a gearbox oil change would be advisable? The car has done 132,000 miles with a full Merc history, but I think the gearbox oil is not changed as part of the standard service routine?

sounds more like an electronic fault rather than the gearbox oil...

The changes into P, R,N,D, are mechanically controlled. The changes into 4,3,2,1 are electronic only.

Definately change the ATF, it sounds like a sticking valve.
