Car
1994 Mercedes C180 classic
I am saving up for some brand new AMG bumpers for my C class W202. However I need to know when I order them from Inchape whether the bumpers will have the chrome bits attached as currently my car has none.

Advice please, cheers.

Im guessing your after the C43 AMG bumpers which dont actully have any chrome bits on them anyway, only the C36 AMG bumpers had the chrome trim bits.

No problem NW Merc. Although your car being a very early pre facelift Classic W202, wont it have the non painted rubbing strips on the doors and on the existing stock bumpers ?

Yep, the woes of owning a 'classic' mercedes... but no trouble will get them resprayed when I get the bumpers

Thats good then, you might as well get the handles done at the same time or if your colour is available in the facelift W210's buy the Classic handles with no chrome strips.

I might just buy the W210 handles as they come ready painted from the factory. I've heard that its not a good idea to get them painted if possible as the handles are used a hell of a lot. I'll only get the rear pieces on the front doors painted in white to match the car.

The list of mods is almost endless....

NW Merc, just out of interest... wouldnt it be worth selling yours an getting a proper C36 or C43, cant understand why you would want to spend all that money on a classic.

By the way the bumper inserts and brackets are also totally different on the C43 and later models

I know, but I've put in the leather electric interior..... I know getting a C36 or C43 would be the answer but a good one is going to set me back quite a bit if its low mileage and its been looked after.

I understand completely what you're saying but sometimes modding is about personal satisfaction from what you've done rather than the monetary value of what is achieved.

I know the brackets are different but Steve at MBenzNL, Koolvin and a few others have taken pre-facelift cars and added facelift bumpers through modifying the brackets........

How's your electric seat install going?

i totally know where your coming from abt modding, but check out the prices of C43 & 36`s as they have dropped to probably the lowest they will go, and worth the investment!

lol, i havent really had the time to spend on the electric seat install, been really busy, but i`ll give you a shout probably near summer time if thats ok, as im sure i`ll get stuck.

might be worth while posting a how to if you got the time, as its a nice little mod!

im in the midst of 2 mods which i havent reallyhad time to start proper;y

What happened to the c43 that was for breaking after it hit a van?

The one that belonged to the kid with the 2000bhp quad turbo mk 3 cavalier, or something of that nature...

Haven't seen any posts from him in a long while.... dunno if his car was written off or whether he managed to get it repaired

I thought the same... i really wouldn't put a C43 body kit on a 1994 c180 classic, its gonna cost a bomb, believe me.

I know, its 1800 quid for the bodykit including vat.... so I'm considering alternatives.... whether to go for maybe the facelift bumpers instead which are more readily available.

Of course, most mods arent worth it in financal terms, but its not just about that. I, like most people really enjoy modding cars.

If I ever won the lottery and bought myself a brand new CL65 AMG & spent most of the day racing it, I can imagine I would really miss the modding virus :(

Front facelift bumpers can be fitted to pre with the aid of some simple filing of the clamp holes.

The rear bumper needs the later clamps - I have pictures if required?

I think the facelift bumpers will be a cost effective option, as it might not be financially viable to spend 1800 quid - well just over 2 grand including painting on a car that costs less than the bumpers themselves.
