E300 Hybrid
Hi,

Took delivery of new E300 Hybrid last week. Very nice car, but I do have a few questions as one or two features seem to be different from those described in the manual, which I assume is aimed at "standard" E class rather than the hybrid.

1. Do you know how I can display outside temp? It appears in the cluster when at a standstill, but disappears when I turn ignition key to "start" so I have no indication of outside temp when driving.

2. There appears to be no fitment for a phone cradle in the compartment under centre armrest. Do I just leave the phone to rattle about in the compartment and plug it into USB port with the phone cable?

Thanks

No idea about question 1, but cradles are an accessory which need purchasing if one is required. There should have been a media interface cable provided with the car for the phone connectivity, this gives greater control over the device via COMAND or the steering wheel buttons. The USB cable can be used for charging from the USB socket.

In answer to question #1, from the owner's handbook..

"Selecting the permanent display function

Vehicles for the United Kingdom: this function is unavailable.

You can determine whether the multifunction display permanently shows your speed or the outside temperature"

It would appear you cannot have the outside temperature displaying when in motion as MB interpret the EU regs as UK having to have a permanent display of kph

Thanks for the response. There is no media interface cable, and no apparent means of connecting a cradle. I will have to check with the dealer.

Thanks for the info. Weird or what? is this only on E class (or only on the Hybrid?) or is this the case with all UK mercs?

thanks

All UK Mercedes models..

Earlier models could be coded (using STAR) to show the outside temp but more recent ones cannot AFAIK

Well after playing a little more, finally found it. By pressing and holding the "back" button on the steering wheel, the display reverts to simple Odometer and Trip mileage, with the lower permanent display showing outside temp plus speed in Km/H

Does it remain permanently displayed after switching the IGN on and off?

Yes. If it is in the Odo menu when I switch off then it stays like that when I switch on again.
If I am in a different trip menu when I switch off, when I switch on again it briefly displays Odo + outside temp, then reverts to the menu I had when I switched off.

Excellent! Looks like MB have seen sense and given drivers the choice :)
