Hi Guys,
I got rid of my 2012 C63 after 7000 miles as I didn't get on with the wet clutch gearbox (I hated not being able to use manual mode until the gearbox oil had heated up which by that time I was at work!) . Am considering getting into a 2011/2012 E63 (5.5 bi-turbo). Is it the same gearbox or a normal torque converter?

Thanks in advance.

I think it is the same

The torque converter gearboxes were in the old W211 E63/CLS63

I very much doubt you will see another torque converter in AMGs now - even less so as time moves on for other models probably.

I would have held on to the C63 and taken a deliberately longer route to work...

I've gone from a C63 n/a to a CLS 63 BiTurbo in the last year and it's the same gearbox.

What aspect of it did you not get on with ?

Depending on that answer you may find a gearbox remap would make it more to your liking.

It was that if you tried to use manual mode upto 20 miles from cold it would feel that it was trying to rip the engine out of the thing. I had the software updated but it made Little difference. Thanks for the replies, might have to go the M5 route, no hardship I suppose!

I have to say I never switch mine into manual until the car is up to temperature because as you say it just doesn't like it.

By gearbox remap I meant third party TCU plug and play map which is done via the OBD port. I've had one done as have a few others on the turbo engine and it does make a difference to shift times and how long the box will hold onto revs before changing itself.
