Quote to fix rust bucket E300 TD

Local MB garage quoted over 4,000 quid to replace and respray 2 front wings and tailgate door and repair and respray rear wheel arches. Are they having a laugh or is this a reasonable price?

Go to a decent local bodyshop, the price will be less than half that.

find out who they use and get a quote from them,

As this is all cosmetic stuff you would be better off leaving it alone - and sell the car as is - it is not worth spending money on - if it has gone rusty there then it will be rusty elsewhere - better putting your money into a new car.

Thank you all for your replies - the quote was given to me by a MB dealer who inspected it with a view to getting my rust bucket fixed by MB - I suspect its the old "double the price and give 50% off" trick

I'm having mine done.. I've already put alot of money into my car.. so I shall keep doing until its perfect.

Hopefully going to get a quote on Saturday morning mine needs quite a bit doing.

I have just fitted 2 pattern W210 front wings from Eurocar parts, I think they were about £45+vat each and they fitted very well with good door and bonnet gaps without any serious "tweaking" so that would show a big saving over the OEM parts. I cant recall how much a tailgate is if a new one is needed but expect the whole job would be less then £1600 at a good indepentant body shop.
