R class 320 cdi
Hi all

I have just searched the forum re:preglow plugs and they seem a common issue.

I purchased my 06 registered r class last Friday. From Lexus garage.

Within the first couple if days of driving it I had noticed the preglow light was not acting as it should during start up. (Staying in for a couple of minutes into my drive) or not illuminating during start up sequence.

They have today took it in, and just rang me to say it has to go to MB. Which of course is covered under warranty off them.

I have read MB preglow plugs come with 2 year warranty, and as they carry out the work I assume there is no need for me to ask Lexus for the receipt when they call me to pick the car up.

Would this in turn have had any adverse affect on the car. I drove to Cheshire yesterday from Derby, and I must say the actual drive of the car was stunning. I was highly impressed. As coming from an Audi I have no knowledge of Mercedes.

Thanks in advance guys.

The glow plugs used to be essential to starting a diesel 20 years ago, but now with the high pressure cdi systems, a car will start without any glow plugs even in very cold weather.
It's great to have them working at this time of year, but make sure you use them!

Excuse me been a complete noobie.

When you say use them what do you mean. I know in compressed manor what there used for. I am assuming they are going to be changed by MB.

Turn your key to position 2 and wait for the light to go out before cranking the engine.
So many people just jump in and turn the key all the way immediately.

Thanks. I was doing that that's when I notices the discrepancies with the pre glow light.

Lexus have sent it to MB for diagnostics. So hopefully all issues will be picked up and sorted and all at no cost to me :)

Hope they get a jog on tho. As missing my baby already, only had her a week!!!! And am in love

Make sure they change them when the engine is red hot as they are prone to break and then you have problems.

They booked the car into MB, taking your comment into consideration I have a feeling that's what May have happened to them and MB put it right....do you know if MB warranty the plugs for any length of time?
