R129 V8 Amg

The chap refers to it being a 500SL AMG, and quotes around 400bhp, so I guess it's an SL60 engine.
I've not seen blue on blue in a R129, but it looks great IMO.

Ah yes! The Rainbow Sheikh! Infamous for his car's colour schemes.

I once saw a motoring programme (I think a Clarkeson one) which stated Mercedes shut down one of their S-Class production lines, so they could fulfil an order for custom W126s from the Rainbow Sheikh.

A few years ago, one of his LHD SEC Gullwing Mercs were made it on to UK ebay, but it was in such a state!
However the colour scheme was classic Rainbow Sheikh - white, with custom rainbow scheme inside.

Very dubious about the claims of upgraded to an SL600 spec with 400bhp, for a start they have a V12 - Sultan's wouldn't have bothered with a V8 IMO.

When i did work for Prince Jefri (Sultans brother) they did have V8's and AMG did do upgrades, sports exhausts etc for them. Prince Akim (Jefri's son) loved the sound of the V8's against the V12's.

They use to fly the head of AMG over to London on a regular basis.

I meant a V8 in an R129. All the ones the Sultan commissioned that I'm aware of are V12s. They all had engine plaques as well.

As well as the R129 V12 AMGs, the Brunei family still ordered MANY Mercs, so it's quite conceivable they ordered AMG V8 engined '129s

Anything is possible Darren, however information on these cars usually surfaces sooner rather than later. To date there's no mention of them that I'm aware of.

The build card doesn't specify the wheels or AMG kit seen in the photos - though does corroborate the ADS and exterior / interior colours.
