R170 Rust

I discoverd some flaking paint on the bottom of one of my arches today...........the surface that faces down..........I got a bit brutal with the others and discoverd rust under the paint on all four.

The cars a keeper so I want the job doing properly.

A local bodyshop said they will need to remove the arches to do the job properly, they remove any rust back to bare metal, apply a rust proof treatment and spray the sides of the car to ensure a perfect match...........the cost is £720 inc vat, they would need the car for a week.

Does this sound like a fair price?

I agree that it does seem a very fair price. However my experience and that of friends with dealing with rust from virtually floorless cars(not flawless) to panels with slight surface rust is that your average body shop is not generally geared up to properly eradicating the problem. Many shops will sand the rust apply some black stuff and then respray on top so that rust will reappear often sooner than later. If you are confident of their restoration capabilities thats fine but I would be inspecting the work when the shop says they have removed the rust and before any treatment is applied. Just something to bear in mind. Hope everything goes well

Rust

Hi I had this issue with my partners silk .sand rust of and then treated with built hamber rust remover,then epoxy primed then ,2 pack primer ,then top coats no rust visible after 2 years .i own my own small garage so done all work my self hope this helps price sounds fair

Surgery is going well!!
The car is solid as a rock underneath
Wings have been off, taken back to bare metal and thoroughly treated.
That'll be the bodywork sorted
Next step is to refurb the alloys and then she's 100% good
