Hello all ,my father has an R170 SLK and he is going to replace the cam shaft magnet at the front of the engine. From reviewing on the web it seems that when this is done the starter line (blocker) from it should also be changed to prevent oil going up into the ECU. I have called my local MB and the guy said that on the M111 engines there is no starter line it is just one continue harness and there is no solution to the problem of oil going up (he said the starter line only came in on the later engine model because of this issue - does anyone who if this is correct i.e. a starter line is not fitted to the M111 engine, and if it is not can we get the newer starter line and some way connect this to the old harness? thanks for any help

I think it only applies to later four cylinder M271 engines when I checked a few years ago. I've had no issues with my M111 nor have I heard of this oil wicking problem on other M111's. If you are worried you can just snip the wires and then fit push on connectors covered in heatshrink. I reckon that would stop any potential wicking.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about a blocked PCV system, the two jet breathers (and the PCV valve that they are connected to) get blocked very easily. All are located below the inlet manifold with the jets located in the cylinder head. Do a search on here, I'm sure there is at least one thread on the subject.

This problem started on the m111 and continued on the m271, the blocker for the 271 is the same as the 111.
