Hi

My 2005 R230 SL has only covered 44k miles but the seat has a tear in it on the base cushion. I had a local Leather Doctor franchise repair it (whilst I was at work!!) and he messed it up with a poor repair and even worse attempt at dyeing the leather. To cut a long story short, I've been quoted about £600 to have the seat recovered at a workshop in Stoke-on-Trent and wondered if this was reasonable. Has anyone else had it done or swapped out the seat? I'm worried the newly recovered seat may not match the existing one.

Cheers

Can you not buy the seat squab cover separately , and just get a competent garage to fit it ?

Dealership would be able to look it up off your VIN , this would be important so you get the same colour code.

Thanks Howard, I hadn't thought of that but it would not solve the unsightly job of dyeing the leather which is a different shade again :-(

Did he dye the leather on the back of the seat then as well ? To try and match the base ?

Oh , I see now :(

That is bad news.

It might still be worth approaching MB , and getting a price for a squab and a seat cover , assuming it's in the same ballpark price wise , at least you can guarantee the leather will be the same colour and feel ?

Equally , it might be worth dropping nick at euromerc a line as he sometimes gets them in at a good price , an example below ...

It might also be worth checking with breakers?

Thanks both.

I have been trying to find one from breakers and ebay but the few I've seen are in poor condition or possibly a different shade. Re Leather Doctor, not yet but they are a franchise and it's proving difficult.

Cheers
