I'm thinking of going down this route to get some phone conectivity, no pre-wrire for me I'm afraid.
I'm looking at the 6000 series which has the mic built into the unit and an RF remote control which would keep visible wiring to a minimum. Although any other suggestions on alternitive units would be useful.
Question for anyone that may know. Do you need to remove the command unit to connect this lot up and if so how's it done.
Thanks chaps.
David

Yes you will as the looms provided with the parrot need to be connected in line between the existing car loom and the car radio (In this case comand). Not sure how easy it is to get comand out of an R230, but somebody will be along soon to tell you how I am sure.

If you have BOSE or HARMAN KARDON upgrade in the R230 on a digital setup, you may also have issues with the Parrot.

I would suggest that you talk to your local car radio shop, who should be able to supply, and give you advice, it might cost a little bit more than buying from the cheapest internet provider, but it will be worth it.

There are also quite a few previous threads that might be of use, such as

I say this with great regard for the car.

If you can afford an R230 you can afford a proper Mercedes wiring job. Not only does the OEM kit go in faster than the parrot but it probably costs the same.

I have done work on these cars quite extensively and I happen to know that it can be done with original factory parts much more easily and with a better value to the car plus all of the factory OEM features.

Get it done right.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I would of course prefer the 'factory' route but I was told I would be looking at around £2,000 to get it done with Mercedes parts. Sounds a bit steep when a Parrot kit would come in below £500 fitted.
So have I been misinformed about the O.E.M. route?
Thanks
David

you need to speak with ALFIE a board member and look at what is involved. Just bear in mind that you get factory operation and resale value.

Why so expensive for the factory setup mate?

I can't believe I'm saying this as we don't normally get along but i agree with Miro you simply cannot beat the factory well you can on performance (aftermarket systems in all areas tend to have more functions) but on integration its obviously miles ahead.

No pre-wire is not a biggie it just means a little longer install thats all, as for the price i installed the phone, all AirScarf wiring and control units, illuminated entrance panels and all wiring for Keyless Go into an R171 SLK for £2.something K's.

Possibly if you asked a dealer they could be suffering from the lack of experience most of them have in projects like this and think crap just give the guy a number and £2k is a nice round number that springs to mind easy.

I would also recommend speaking to somebody like Alfie, this is what he and a few other members on here do for a living so they are the people to speak to.

Thanks for the info chaps, Richard kindly recommended Alfie at www.comand.co.uk too.

I checked out his sight but it specifically excluded the R230 among a few others that they did not offer any services for.

Still pretty confused about phone intergration, from what you guys say it's no great problem to solve witout pre-wire but I'm still drawing a blank other than spending what I feel is silly money i.e £1 to £2K.

Has anyone done it at a reasonable cost?

Thanks again.
David

I am in the same boat, NO way am i prepared to pay that sort of money for a phone retrofit, i am waiting for this gadget to be released any time now for under £500 Click bluetooth phone on the left panel :)

Who gave you that quote mate?

Hi Dan,
My local indy Mercaid gave me the figure, I should add it wasn't a quote more the answer to an idle question whilst it was in for service.

I can understand that they may not want that kind of work, they seemed pretty busy with the regular stuff.

I'd love to lnow what is actually involved and the parts required for the upgrade but what would you say should be a rough cost for the install.

Cheers
David

Isn't this the one that has been coming "any time soon" for about two years now? I don't know anything about it otherwise, perhaps it does come soon but if it is the same device I've looked at before, I couldn't count on their schedule.

I dont know if its the same product, but im in no hurry, the last thing i want is to add some gadget sitting on the dash & then hear that the ARGOS has been released.

What age is your car mate?

The trouble here is that parts cost is about £750, excluding the £350 bluetooth SAP cradle. And that assumes that you don't need to change the mirror - I think you can just change the cover and add a microphone on the R230 SL

Richard

Yeah your right its just the cover for the R230
