I tried some error free LED's today in the number plate lights and they didnt work. Then went for some festoons in the door lights but the car didnt seem to like them either. Have I just got a stubborn old girl that doesnt like change?

Many leds are polarity sensitive. Try turning them round in the holders.

The bulb failure detection is probably seeing too little current draw so deciding bulb has failed and turning off the circuit. You need what are strangely/commonly known as 'can bus error free' ones, which put more of load on the circuit and the car doesn't regard them as broken

Someone else will come along and suggest a good supplier (one of the forum members sells them)

Cheers gents, maybe I will persevere as I did buy the can bus error free ones - I havent fitted them in pairs yet though.
